About Dr. Smith
Dr. Arien Smith is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurosurgeon treating adult and pediatric brain and spine conditions, including minimally invasive spine surgery for herniated discs, sciatica and spinal stenosis. Patients consistently note how carefully he explains what is happening and why — one described having a complex two-stage spine operation laid out clearly enough that the whole family understood it. He studied Spanish alongside biology as an undergraduate and sees Spanish-speaking patients in their own language, which matters in a conversation about spine surgery.
He earned his medical degree at Yale, completed his neurosurgery residency at Mount Sinai in New York, and finished a spine fellowship at Beth Israel Medical Center and the Spine Institute of New York. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and is a Fellow of both the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Smith sees patients in Manhattan, Kew Gardens and the Bronx.

What patients say
Great and kind doctor! Explained everything in cohesive manner so that I could understand my husbands surgery and ended up doing a great job with the surgery itself! My husband has shown great improvement. He had two surgeries back to back, one in the spine and one in the lower stomach to remove pieces of leftover disc from a previous surgery. If you are debating whether or not to see this doctor I 100% recommend it!
